34 David Street - A Little Piece of History in Wellesley!

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Every once in a while, we stumble upon a home that is filled with history. 34 David Street in Wellesley would be the perfect example of this!

Offered for: SOLD

History

In 1847, the village of Wellesley which is located on the Nith River was first settled by John Smith. At the time, the name of this beautiful new small village was Schmidtsville. The post office opened in 1851 and not longer after that, the village was renamed Wellesley. The village immediately began to thrive, with small business excelling quickly and efficiently! In 1865, a gentleman by the name of Peter Doersam created a Brewery, and this brewery has became an all brick, Georgian Style Home for many years since. That home is exactly what is for sale today - 34 David St in Wellesley. Pretty neat!

Although for many years, 34 David Street has been a family residence, features of the brewery remain. In the basement of this home, there are two tunnels, about 12 feet underground, that were previously used for the Brewery. As you can imagine being 12 feet under the ground, these rooms are very very cold. Now ... let your imagination wander a little bit. You purchase this home. What do you use those tunnels for? They are full of history. The first thing that pops into our mind - a wine cellar. Filling the tunnels with wine racks, placing a large live-edge wood table down the middle, imagine the family gatherings. I have a feeling you would host a few wine tastings down there! Although this is such a neat feature of the home, there is much more to discuss!

Location

So many dream of living on the water. Imagine the view. A view so many dream of! This home allows for exactly that. Featuring just over 2000 square feet, this home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a newer roof, master bedroom with walk in closet (yes - this was very very rare for this vintage of homes), an updated kitchen with granite countertops, and much more!

One of our favourite features of 34 David Street is the sunroom addition. Keeping the history of the home throughout, this sunroom was created to overlook the water while maintaining the exposed brick exterior to give is a really neat look and feel. The living room is also full of character wit the original pine floors and ceiling beams and a gas stove in the corner. Such a vintage feel and allows for this home to keep the history alive!

The living room and dining room combination leaves so much room for your imagination with design ideas. Although you may come in and make some changes to this home, the structure of the home and the lot that it is situated on will leave you ready to make it your own!

Gardens

As the summer days approach us and the nights are getting warmer, gardeners are hard at work doing what they love to make their property stand out. If you have a green thumb and love to be in your gardens all day, this home is calling you. Gardens surround this entire home and give a feel of country living in the heart of the township.

Town of Wellesley

For those of you who are not familiar with the town of Wellesley, you will love what you find! Small town living but close to the big city! The perfect combination.

You can wake up and walk to Schmidtsville for breakfast (so delicious - and now you know why it is called Schmidtsville), head to The Chop House for dinner (they have the best specials), take the kids to the park and the splash pad, take the dog to the dog park, head to the hockey arena, summer farmers market, wander around the pond, and more! There are so many wonderful local businesses that provide such friendly service. Everything that you really need on a day to day basis you can find right here!

Wondering what school your children may be attending if you lived at 34 David Street? Wellesley Public School is available for JK to Grade 8. After that, the options are Forest Heights Collegiate, Sir John A. Macdonald S.S. or Waterloo-Oxford. Reach out for more in-depth details!

The history of this home goes back far too long to explain it all here. But we would love for you to see it in person! Reach out today to book your own private or virtual tour. We look forward to meeting you in person!
