Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Welcome to this beautiful home - a true marvel! Filled with history, let's take a tour through the years and show just how truly special this property is.

Offered for: SOLD

A Piece of History

Dating back to 1989, this home was completely overhauled and restored by Victor and Dorothea Martens. It was restored to look like what it did almost 100 years ago - such a rare find. It was ensured that local trades were used to restore their home from top to bottom, embracing the history and historical significance that this property offers. A local wood turner was found and they were willing to craft the 500 spindles that were needed to build the 2 tier porch. A process to complete but worth all the time. The homeowners at the time also dug around the outside of the house to install drainage, concrete window sills and a sump pump to prevent any water from entering the home. That is why the basement is so dry today - such an important quality that emphasizes the care and attention to detail. The pine floors were all restored and there are pine floors on all three levels of the home. They even took out some pine floors in a closet to replace worn out ones to keep everything uniform and looking original.

189 Snyder's Road Loft

One of the most creative renovations was done in the attic/loft. A large skylight was added to bring in natural light, while entirely insulating the floor. In addition, a kitchen was added, as well as a full living corridors and four-piece bathroom.

New Hamburg Independent

The home was said to be built in the late 1890's or early 1900's by Henry Hofstetter. The basement used to be a pottery studio. There was an old New Hamburg Independent Heritage Newspaper Article written about the house on Wednesday February 10th, 1993.

The Coach House

The coach house has in-ground heating and it is a one bedroom apartment. Currently rented for 1200 plus utilities and has its own laundry.

The Property Itself

The gardens are very well maintained by professionals. One of their favourite spots to sit is out back below the pergola that is draped in grape vines. It is one of the best views and a wonderful place to visit and entertain. Another spectacular view is from the dining room out to the backyard. Great view of the gardens through to the park. Talk about your own private oasis in the heart of a lovely town and minutes to the city!

189 Snyder's Road E - Additional Features

The house can be separated into two by only closing a few doors. This gives the option for renting out the home and increasing income OR to create a Bed and Breakfast setup. Not a bad idea given how close it is to the Stratford Festival!

This is one of the original homes to be built in Baden and they chose this specific lot because of the higher elevation. This was back in the early 1900's. The wood work in the home is exceptional. Everything is in such good condition and it is evident throughout how much love and care has been put into this home for many many years. All the pocket doors work like they would have many years ago when installed which is such a rare find. The curved staircase is beautifully done. The kitchen has been updated and you will notice it still has the original pantry that has been restored. So much natural wood!! It has a back staircase that was previously used as a servant staircase. Another unique feature is there is a bathroom on every finished level! Newer windows in 2003 and has three kitchen's total including the coach house. Original drapes are still available. They are not on the home currently but available which would attribute to additional history throughout the home. You can decide! There are also Hot Water Heaters in both the Coach House and in the home itself - both owned and not rented.

The features of this home are endless and the history throughout could endlessly discussed. Let's take a peak though at the lovely town that this home is situated within.
